Thomas Odum is my oldest ancestor I can prove. We think his father was Seaborn or Ceburn Odum who had land grants in the area. Thomas was married to Minerva, 1823-1890. She indicated on the census that she was from Illinois but we have never discovered a maiden name or proof of Thomas being in Illinois. I am descended from his son, John R Odum, 1848-1914, wife Peggy Smith. Their son, Ambrose, 1868-1930, is pictured above with his wife, Lousettie Scantland, 1872-1950, and family. My grandfather, Perry, is the young boy in the back row. Papa is also pictured to the right. This picture taken in the 1960's is how I remember him. He was born in Jackson County in 1898 and died in 1969 in Nashville. My grandmother was Martha Leona Hix was born 1898 in Jackson County and died in Nashville in 1995.
I have recently been working on the family tree of Seybert Odom from Barnwell County, SC. Seybert and Seaborn seem similar to me especially considering how names were misspelled during that time. I have also been tracking DNA connections that I think are descended from Thomas' brother. My DNA is on Ancestry.
I am also a member of the National Odom Assembly and I am trying to connect my line of Odums with any of the other Odom lines. Connect with NOA via the Facebook link below.
